Priority question for written answer P-001727/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Andi Cristea (S&D)
In the context of Parliament’s Committee on Petitions, I am following up on Petition 1428/2024, submitted by EU citizen Daniel Tudor, which calls for the introduction of mandatory identity verification (KYC) for all social media accounts created and visible within the EU.
The petitioner highlights the potential of such a system to ensure transparency, enhance digital accountability and reduce the prevalence of disinformation, anonymous abuse and coordinated manipulation on online platforms.
Given the planned review of the Digital Services Act (DSA) in November 2025 and the EU’s broader commitment to a safer and more trustworthy digital environment, this proposal merits attention.
- 1.Is the Commission currently considering the inclusion, as part of the DSA review process, of mandatory identity verification requirements for social media accounts that are visible and operated in the EU?
- 2.If so, what preparatory steps or consultations are being undertaken to evaluate the implementation of such requirements?
