Episcopado de Paraguay
Asunción (Agenzia Fides) – Faced with the physical and symbolic barriers faced by migrants, the Church in Paraguay puts into practice the four verbs proposed by Pope Francis: welcome, protect, promote, and integrate. From a global perspective marked by forced displacement and the search for better living conditions, the local Catholic Church has strengthened its commitment to these people with the inauguraton of the new Integrated Center for the Pastoral Care of Human Mobility in Asunción.The center, inaugurated by Cardinal Adalberto Martínez Flores, Archbishop of Asunción, in a ceremony that brought together church authorities and representatives of social organizations dedicated to migration, is designed to offer housing, support, and guidance to migrants, refugees, and family members of Paraguayans who have had to leave the country.According to a statement released by the Latin American Episcopal Council, the body representing the bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean, the new center aims to become a point of reference for those in transit, returning, or facing difficulties far from their home, offering appropriate support and guidance in an increasingly complex situation for those who migrate without information or protection. In addition to addressing urgent needs, the center will function as a training space with workshops, biblical spirituality courses, and spaces for reflection focused on the causes and consequences of migration. These initiatives are aimed at volunteers and pastoral workers working in this field, including sociologists, lawyers, doctors, psychologists, religious leaders, and lay Scalabrinians.Through this initiative, the Church reaffirms its commitment to the dignity and rights of migrants. The event was jointly organized by the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference, the Archdiocese, and the Scalabrini Foundation, a branch of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians), with a long history of supporting migrants.
