Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) – The participation of the Sudanese Defense Industries System (SDIS) in the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), which concluded yesterday, Sunday, July 27, in Istanbul, Turkey, is particularly important for two reasons.First, on a geopolitical level, it confirms and strengthens the growing alliance between the regime of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Turkey, which is increasingly present on the African continent. Second, it demonstrates that even a country immersed in armed conflict—and in urgent need of weapons—can continue to participate in the international arms trade. The Sudanese delegation was led by Defense Minister Lieutenant General Hassan Daoud Kabron and Director General of the SDIS, Lieutenant General Mirghani Idris Suleiman, who has been sanctioned by the United States and the European Union for his involvement in violating the embargo on arms sales to the warring parties in Sudan.Since April 2023, Sudan has been immersed in open warfare between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by Mohamed Hamdan “Hemeti” Dagalo. The RSF has caused significant damage to key Sudanese military facilities in the Khartoum region, particularly the Yarmouk Military Industrial Complex, which produces armored vehicles and heavy weapons. However, despite these losses, the military industry under SAF control has managed to maintain its activity during the conflict.Participation in IDEF 2025—one of the world’s most important arms fairs (see Fides, June 23, 2023)—aims to relaunch Sudan’s military production capacity and establish international partnerships in order to obtain advanced technologies.”Sudan is moving forward with determination toward regaining its regional status, with a sovereign and strategic vision based on a balanced and constructive military and technological engagement,” the Minister of Defense declared on the sidelines of the event.According to a statement from Sudan’s defense industries,The Sudanese participation in this international event aims to transfer modern technologies in the defense fields to the country, build strategic partnerships with regional and global companies, showcase national capabilities in defense manufacturing, and open channels for investment and joint cooperation.Among the products presented by Sudanese companies are locally manufactured drones and the Burkan precision bomb.Organized under the auspices of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, IDEF 2025 with the participation of over 1,400 companies from more than 50 countries.
