Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides) – The central importance of the Blessed Sacrament in the life of Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year was the focus of the first National Eucharistic Congress, held last week in Lilongwe, which received the blessing of the Holy Father, through the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.”The most important thing is not what we do in the Eucharist, but what we are through the Eucharist,” emphasized the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Gian Luca Perici, whose words were echoed by Archbishop George Desmond Tambala of Lilongwe, who emphasized that the centrality of the Eucharist in the life of a Christian is not an option or a personal choice, but a direct mandate of Jesus Christ. The final message, based on the six reports submitted to the Congress, highlights the following priorities: disseminating and deepening the results of the Congress among all the faithful at all levels of the Church, promoting a deeper devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and encouraging continuous reflection and catechesis on the mystery of the Blessed Sacrament.During the Congress, delegates also adopted a list of pastoral initiatives, including the careful preparation of liturgical celebrations, starting with the songs designed to help the faithful actively participate in the liturgy to the pastoral care of the baptized who cannot receive the sacraments, so that they can return to full sacramental participation.
