Written question – EU-US tariffs: food products and drinks – E-003917/2025

Source: European Parliament

Question for written answer  E-003917/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Benoit Cassart (Renew)

The new tariffs will significantly hinder the ability of European products – in particular food products and drinks – to compete in the US market.

  • 1.Does the Commission have any means at its disposal to expand the range of food products and drinks considered as sensitive and/or to call for reciprocal tariffs on a range of products, so that the competitiveness of these particular European products is not affected?
  • 2.How does it plan on upholding its commitment to protecting sensitive products and the fruit and vegetable sector?
  • 3.A lack of reciprocal tariffs will likely act as an incentive for importing particular products from the US, ultimately upsetting the already-delicate balance in the market for these products. Would the Commission not have been better off launching a public consultation and carrying out an impact assessment?
