Question for written answer  E-004133/2025
to the Council
Rule 144
Jorge Buxadé Villalba (PfE)

The Spanish Government has approved pardons for two Antifa terrorists who, on 17 January 2019, attacked the police and destroyed public property in an attack on a VOX rally.

Impunity for the perpetrators of an attack that caused injuries of varying severity to seven police officers emboldens an organisation whose objectives include putting an end to opposition in Spain.

As recent events in the United States have shown, this organisation poses a serious risk to public safety and political plurality for such reasons as its blithe disregard for the democratic values enshrined in Article 2 of the TEU.

In this connection, the working party on restrictive measures to combat terrorism (COMET) assesses the situation in the world with a view to updating the list of terrorist organisations in the European Union for the purpose of establishing restrictive measures.

In light of this situation:

  • 1.When will the Council propose including Antifa on the EU’s list of terrorist organisations?
  • 2.Has the Sánchez government been asked to explain the risks that these pardons pose to security and to the exercise of democratic opposition?
