Question for written answer E-001819/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Catherine Griset (PfE)
The rapid development of AI means it could be used for dubbing films, series or documentaries.
However, replacing voice actors with AI-generated synthetic voices could reduce the accuracy, authenticity and expression of emotions in audiovisual works.
In addition, artists’ voices might be used to train AI without the artists concerned consenting to this or even being paid.
- 1.Will the Commission protect artists against the unlawful use of their voices to train AI for dubbing, for example under the related rights of performers?
- 2.Does it envisage tools to inform the public when dubbing has been carried out by AI?
- 3.If necessary, will it promote the development of European AI for dubbing, in collaboration with voice actors’ representatives?
