On 5 May 2025, ENVI Members held a Structured Dialogue with Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra, responsible for Climate Action, Net-Zero and Clean Growth, focusing on progress towards key climate objectives and upcoming legislation

Commissioner Hoekstra leads the EU’s efforts to achieve climate neutrality, to strengthen EU climate diplomacy, and to build a resilient net-zero economy. As part of a broader framework to meet the EU’s climate goals, the Commission is expected to propose the revision of the European Climate Law, including a 90% emission-reduction target for 2040. Commissioner Hoekstra is also one of the Commissioners responsible for the Clean Industrial Deal that aims to scale up clean tech investments and to enhance the industrial carbon management. ENVI Members had the opportunity to exchange with the Commissioner on upcoming legislative proposals and priorities. Discussions touched on a variety of ENVI-related climate issues, including on the EU Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to be submitted ahead of the international climate conference COP30 in Bélem, or ongoing legislative files like the simplification of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
