The Commission announced in the communication on a Simpler and Faster Europe[1] and its 2025 work programme[2] an ambitious simplification agenda throughout all areas of regulation, including on digital matters.

The objective of the exercise is to cut costs on businesses across all sectors, delivering simpler rules and more cost-effective implementation.

This exercise is not about de-regulating, but about simplifying rules wherever it is possible to identify adequate means of pursuing the original regulatory objective by more streamlined and efficient means. A simpler rulebook will help strengthen the competitiveness of our economy.

As regards digital regulation, the Commission announced its intention to propose a Digital Package in the fourth quarter of the year, including a proposal for a Digital Omnibus with concrete measures of regulatory simplification.

Further, the Commission announced it would conduct a fitness check of the digital acquis and will continue to conduct evaluations on the major digital regulatory instruments, as required by the legal acts.

In addition, on digital rules, as well as other regulatory instruments, the Commission is carrying out implementation dialogues[3] with stakeholders to seek feedback and facilitate the implementation of EU policies and rules, and their potential simplification.

Throughout the mandate we will continue our efforts to simplify rules while upholding our goals and targets in a more cost-effective way.
