Santiago (Agenzia Fides) – Breaking the silence and dispelling the myths surrounding human trafficking, promoting recognition of this reality in everyday contexts that often go unnoticed. This is the objective of the campaign launched on the occasion of the upcoming World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, to be celebrated on July 30.With the slogan “No es normal, es trata” (It’s not normal, it’s trafficking), the Red Clamor Chile Network has launched an initiative aimed at raising public awareness about this serious human rights violation that affects thousands of people living in Chile. The campaign, which will culminate on July 30, aims to mobilize Chilean society against situations that have become normalized but hide sexual exploitation, forced labor, or slavery. “We often hear phrases like ‘it’s part of the job’ or ‘she wanted to be here,’ without realizing that behind them may lie coercion, threats, or deception. This campaign invites us to open our eyes and recognize that trafficking is neither foreign nor distant,” reads a statement issued by the network’s Executive Secretariat.”As a Church, we cannot remain indifferent to the silent suffering of so many people trapped in networks of trafficking,” emphasized Moisés Atisha, Bishop of San Marcos de Arica and representative of the Clamor Chile Network. “We are called to be a prophetic voice, to denounce abuses, and to actively commit ourselves to defending human dignity, especially that of the most vulnerable.”According to Iglesia.cl, the campaign is aimed at all inhabitants of the country, particularly migrant communities, young people, pastoral workers, social organizations, and public officials. Parishes, communities, civil society organizations, and the media are invited to join and share the message: a gesture of awareness can change a life.(AP) (Agenzia Fides, 23/7/2025)
