Statement by President Meloni on events in the Susa Valley

What happened in the Susa Valley today is shameful. Organised ‘No Tav’ groups [against the high-speed rail link] occupied the Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, attacked construction sites, and threw rocks and smoke bombs at public security forces. We strongly condemn these acts of urban guerrilla warfare unworthy of a civilised nation, which have nothing to do with the expression of dissent. Under this Government’s security decree, these actions can be punished more severely and firmly. Our full solidarity and thoughts go out to our men and women in uniform, who once again today have shown their worth and sense of duty in curbing unrest and ensuring security.
