Nita (Agenzia Fides) – “A historic event, simple and full of meaning, that testifies to how the seeds of St. Camillus’s charism, planted in this country about fifteen years ago, are beginning to bear concrete fruits of love and service,” Italian Camillian missionary Luigi Galvani told Fides about the laying of the foundation stone for the “St. Camillus House of Charity,” which took place on July 30 in the village of Nita on the island of Flores.”This is the first Camillian charitable institution in Indonesia,” the missionary said. “With it, the Camillians in this Asian country are putting into practice their commitment to promote structures of hope and mercy and to form ‘witnesses of charity’ capable of responding with generosity and passion to the challenges of human suffering, in a spirit of evangelization and social promotion.”The new House of Charity is located next to the Camillian Philosophical and Theological Seminary (see Fides, 9/1/2017) and is intended to provide young seminarians with an environment in which they can practice, experience, and internalize the charism of St. Camillus: “Caring for the sick, poor, and marginalized just like a mother cares for her only sick child.”The laying of the foundation stone was accompanied by Camillian formators, who actively participated in the rite of blessing the foundation stone, the symbol of Christ, the foundation of every true work of charity. “Their presence,” Father Galvani concluded, “underlines the close connection between professional formation and missionary life, between spirituality and concrete service to the poor and sick.”(AP/LG) (Agenzia Fides, 4/8/2025)
