Extradition arrangements between EU Member States and third countries, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are governed by multilateral or bilateral treaties.

Moreover, decisions on extradition are taken by national courts or by Ministries of Justice or of Foreign Affairs. The Commission does not, as a matter of principle, intervene in individual national criminal investigations or proceedings.
