Calamar (Agenzia Fides) – Hope, peace, and reconciliation were the central themes of the meeting held on the occasion of the Jubilee of Youth in one of the most multiethnic and cultural municipalities in Colombia: Calamar, a peripheral town located several kilometers from the main cities. The motto of this Jubilee was “Hope is the anchor of the soul,” and, according to the notes distributed by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, through the “Tent of Encounter” program, groups of young people from different communities in the municipality, together with numerous adult volunteers, found a space to reflect, share, and delve deeper into themes such as God’s forgiveness and mercy, the importance of hope in Christian life, relationships and friendship, as well as the beauty of life and nature. They were also able to discover or rediscover friendship with Jesus. This event was an enriching experience for young people, the FMA note, and helped them explore and explain their hope, to grow in it in a concrete way as an essential element of life, to make it flourish in society.”The fullness of our existence does not depend on what we accumulate or what we possess, but rather on what we joyfully accept and share,” they write, recalling Pope Leo XIV’s homily, delivered on August 3, 2025, in Rome at Tor Vergata, in which the Pontiff exhorted the thousands of young people present to draw a meaningful response from what they experienced during those days. The event, held within the framework of Youth Week, was organized by the Blessed Sister Maria Troncatti Community of Calamar, of the Province of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá (CBC). In this context, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians worked synodically and as a network, involving various local entities: the social organization, the Municipal Sports Unit (UMDERCA), the City Council, the José Eustasio Rivera Cultural Center, and the Cristo Rey parish.Calamar is located in the Colombian Amazon region, an area of great importance for its biodiversity. It has only one paved road, which connects the fish market with the residential area; motor vehicles are rare, and motorcycles are practically non-existent. The rest of the town stretches along dusty streets, riddled with potholes caused by torrential rains. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 22/9/2025)
