Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – In July, the Secretary General of the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood (POSI), Sister Inês Paulo Albino, addressed an appeal to all National Directions of the Pontifical Mission Societies: “With a heavy heart, in the face of the many different situations of war we are experiencing in so many parts of the world, and other forms of exploitation of children and young people, I ask everyone to intensify prayer and encourage children and young people to pray.” This call to prayer has evolved over the past few months into a global “relay race,” centered on the prayer of the Rosary, culminating on Tuesday, October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. From Myanmar to Angola, passing through Slovakia and Malta, children and young people prayed for peace and participated in initiatives and workshops focused on the theme of peace.”Dear children, dear young people, you are already missionaries. You are small, but you have a heart as big as heaven,” said Sister Inês Paulo Albino, addressing the members of POSI scattered throughout the world, to thank them especially for their commitment to peace. “With your constant prayer for the mission of the Church and for peace in the world, with your witness, with the generous sharing of your financial resources or other material goods with those in need. With these simple gestures, you transform people’s hearts and teach us adults to live the Gospel concretely. Thank you! Continue to be missionaries of hope and peace, everywhere.”This initiative, which has further highlighted the widespread nature of the network of children and young people who are part of the Pontifical Childhood Society, founded in 1843 by Bishop Charles de Forbin-Janson and now present in over 120 countries, is based on the motto chosen for this year by the International Secretariat of the Pontifical Society: “Sowers of Hope Today!” This theme is to be put into practice, and children and young people are to be “signs of hope.”The Society’s regularly published bulletin, available on the Pontifical Mission Societies website, reports on the diverse activities, initiatives, and missionary testimonies of the Society around the world. A new edition will be published in the coming weeks. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 18/10/2025)
